DIY Skin Exfoliant

Updated: May 9, 2022

Exfoliating your skin helps to gently removed any dead skin that may be hanging around. If you’re anything like me, your skincare routine sucks (there, I said it).

I first discovered this easy, peasy DIY exfoliant when I consulted with the makeup artist for my wedding in 2017. She highly recommended starting to exfoliate my skin in the weeks leading up to the big day. This would do a couple of things for my skin— 1. it would make my face have a nice glow, removing dark circles and dead dead skin and 2. it would allow the makeup to stick to my face for longer.

I wanted to get started immediately so I quickly Googled at-home skin exfoliants and a version of the recipe to follow was found. After trying the recipe out myself, I noticed I really liked it best using just two ingredients — sugar & honey.

If you’re preparing your skin for a boudoir session (or wedding), try exfoliating using this DIY recipe in the month leading up to your date. It is best to use the exfoliant no more than three times per week.

RECIPE

1/2 c granulated sugar

2 tbsp honey

Glass jar with lid

Combine all ingredients until a paste is formed. Store in a cool area. If paste becomes too thick after storing, scoop a “serving” out and add a drop of warm water, then use on skin.

USAGE

Gently rub approximately 2 tablespoons of exfoliant onto skin (you can even use on your legs, too) for 30-60 seconds and rinse. Repeat every 2-3 days.
